Indian Premier League 2023: Season preview

World class T20 cricket is on the menu once again, as the Indian Premier League returns for its 16th season. Yesterday Rajasthan Royals beat Gujarat Titans to stay at the top  of the IPL table. Today, it's match 24 of 70: Royal Challengers Bangalore vs Chennai Super Kings (3pm BST). 

Ten star-packed teams will be battling out across 12 venues and 74 matches, with the Gujarat Titans the defending champs following their maiden victory last year.

There's a return to the familiar home-away format, with franchises back at their home venues for the first time in four years, as well as number of significant rule changes, including the announcement of starting XIs following the toss and the controversial Impact Player rule which now allows tactical substitutions to be made in-game.

This year's most valuable player is England star Sam Curran who was snapped up by Punjab Kings for a record breaking 16.25 crore (£1.85 million), while Australian all-rounder Cameron Green and England Test skipper Ben Stokes also went for big bucks during the pre-season auctions.

TV broadcast rights for there IPL have had a bit of a shake up for the 2023 season.
